Lot 32: In this vintage Tribal Qashqai Gabbeh rug (circa 1970), the check design consists of square or rectangular compartments forming a grid-like pattern across the rug’s surface. Inspired by the architecture inside ancient pigeon towers, these compartmentalised patterns mirror the interior walls, where nesting spaces were meticulously arranged. Each “check” or compartment may showcase contrasting colours, lending depth and a contemporary flair to the rug’s overall appearance. Beyond aesthetics, this pattern embodies the Qashqai weavers’ deep connection to their architectural and cultural heritage, infusing the rug with a unique, historical significance that makes it both a decorative and culturally rich piece.
